I am a newly single mom, 28 years old, and I have a 2 year old daughter. I am looking for a kind, energetic au pair, who loves toddlers, and who speaks Portuguese. My daughter’s father is Brazilian and we speak Portuguese to her. We would like to find an au pair who will agree to speak ONLY Portuguese to our daughter to help make sure she continues to be bilingual. This requires a lot of talking! So I need a talkative person. I work long hours so I need someone who is prepared to work the full 45 hours per week. Taking care of a toddler is not an easy job, and I need someone who is an adult and will take the responsibility seriously. I have a comfortable home in Bedford, Massachusetts in a beautiful quiet neighborhood surrounded by nature. I will provide access to a car so you can take my daughter out during the day, and also explore Boston and the surrounding area in your free time. I try to speak Portuguese with my daughter, but I will speak English with you if you want help practicing the language. I live upstairs and my parents live downstairs. They only speak English, so if you interact with them it will be an opportunity to practice your English. I don’t mind if you bring someone over to the house during your free time, as long as you are respectful of shared spaces and any house rules. No smokers please. No alcohol or drugs in the house.
The au pair’s job will basically be to play with, entertain, feed, change diapers (maybe try potty training?), and ensure the safety of my 2 year old daughter for 45 hours per week while I am at work. She is a happy, fun child, but she is also energetic and always inventing something new that she wants to do, so this is not a job for someone who likes to sit on the couch all day. My daughter is not old enough to play by herself. She always wants you to play with her and be next to her. This job also involves a lot of talking. I want to expose my daughter to as much Portuguese as possible, so you must be interested in talking, singing, telling stories, reading books, taking her places to introduce new vocabulary, etc. Not just watching TV. I don’t like when she spends a lot of time watching videos on TV or on the phone. I want somebody who will take the job seriously and engage with my little girl and help expand her Portuguese vocabulary.
