I am a 32 year old mum married to a 38 year old dad, we have a 18 month old son and a 2 year old Vizsla (dog). I work from home as a lawyer and my husband is a doctor. We currently have a lovely German au pair who has been with us since September 2015 but is leaving to go to university. It is important to us that an au pair loves dogs and babies and is happy to muck in where needed. As a busy family we need someone who just gets on with the job - a positive outlook on life is important. We love learning about other cultures and enjoy having dinner with our au pair most nights and love having another member of the family.
We have a good system where our current au pair works midday to 6pm five days a week (when I then work from home) and then gets paid extra for babysitting. She also takes our dog out for a morning quick walk (10 mins) at 8am and when she finishes at 6pm - this is a good system for getting the au pair up and to make the most of the morning and at 6pm to relax after the day. However, as a lawyer sometimes I get caught up on the phone and it is important that our au pair just continues with the routine with our son until I come down to take over. So we need someone who is happy to cook basic food and doesn't mind if I'm running a little late - we always pay overtime where indicated. When our son is having a day time nap we expect our au pair to do light housekeeping - i.e. hoovering and unpacking/repacking the dishwasher and general tidying.
