We are an experienced au pair family. We are looking for a Japanese au pair. Since our children speak reasonably good Japanese (although we're not of Japanese decent and, in fact are Jewish), good English is NOT a requirement, although all of our au pairs improve their English during their time with us since neither my husband nor I speak Japanese. We need someone who is a good driver, and since there is a LOT of driving actually likes to drive, and fairly easy going since two of the children are teens and there is a certain amount of teenage behavior. Someone who likes to teach is a plus, since we also expect our au pair to work with our children, especially our youngest, on his Japanese.
Mostly our au pair is expected to drive our two youngest children to their activities. We home school, so these activities are an important part of their day. Additionally, we ask that the au pair work with them on their Japanese. Most of the time our au pair is helping Thomas, our youngest, who turned 9 in December. Weekends are free, and the au pair has her own car which is used to drive the children, but is hers to use in her spare time. She is also expected to fix lunch for the kids.
