Introduction personnelle

We are Anna (38 years) and Matthew (44) Simmonds from Bedford, a large town less than an hour on the train from central London. Anna is originally from Poland. Henry will be 2 in May and he is a very active, boisterous and mischievous little boy. Henry may be described as ‘hard work’ because he is full of energy and needs to be occupied at all times. When he is tired, he is very grumpy and cranky but when he has had a good night’s sleep and a long nap in the day, he is sweet. It is important to us that he has a close relationship with his au pair who would play with him and keep him interested and engaged. We need someone who will be patient with his mood swings and will care for him. Bedford is a great location for someone looking to explore London (1 hr by train), Cambridge (1.5 hrs by bus), Oxford (2.5 hrs by bus) and Brighton (2.5 hrs by train). There is a large au pair community in Bedford and we would encourage our au pair to make friends and socialise in her spare time. You will be free to do what you like in your spare time (evenings and weekends). Our house is located just 20-25 mins walking distance from the town centre with shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and night clubs – so it is a nice spot for a young person to meet new people and socialise. There are also a couple of beautiful parks and the attractive riverside embankment. We are a rather private family and both of us work long hours. Anna returns from work at about 6.30pm and has only evenings and weekends to spend time with Henry. Matthew works late so we will need someone who is able to commit to our r

Le travail de l'Au pair

You will be expected to look after Henry Monday to Friday from the time he wakes up (7.30am-8am, sometimes 8.30am) until Anna’s return from work at about 6pm-6.30pm. Although this looks like an awful long week and long hours, it is not as bad as it sounds because grandma looks after Henry 2 or 3 times a week by taking him out for long walks as of 2.30pm until 5pm. If you would like to attend a language course, we will of course arrange cover for the period or send Henry to the nursery then. We have a certain degree of flexibility regarding the hours you will need to cover as both grandma and Matthew can help out in the working week. The key responsibilities would include: - Dressing Henry in the morning and preparing and serving his breakfast - Playing with him until his first nap of the day (usually at 10am but it varies, sometimes he has a nap in late afternoon) - Taking him out for long walks, playgrounds and baby groups - Serving him lunch and dinner (all prepared by Anna) - Changing nappies, potty training - Talking, singing, dancing and any fun activities you can think of (Henry loves to help with housework like hoovering or wiping cupboards). If you would like to come up with any ideas and initiatives on how to keep him entertained, stimulated and out of trouble, that would be great. - Light housework duties i.e. hoovering or mopping the living room and kitchen floors, vacuuming the hall, stairs and landing, keeping the kitchen area tidy, dusting, keeping the utility room clean and some laundry duties (no ironing!). Anna does her fair share of housework and we could rotate some of the responsibilities. These should not take longer than just 3 hours a week. Free time: As soon as one of us is back from work (6pm-6.30pm), you are free to do what you like. We do not require you to do any babysitting in the evenings. Weekends are free but once in a blue moon we may ask you to help for an hour or two on a Saturday but only if it is convenient to you. Bank holidays are free. We also are looking for someone who will respect our privacy in the evenings and weekends, who is sociable and will actively engage with the local au pair community. Pay: Our proposed pay is £85 per week. There is an additional opportunity to earn extra money through looking after another child –a 2 year old Ollie between the hours of 1pm and 4pm. His parents would pay £3 per hour but this is not a requirement. We will also pay for your travel to Cambridge and Oxford (also Milton Keynes and Northampton) at weekends as many times as you wish. Lodging: You will live in a single bedroom and have access to wifi. There is a shared bathroom upstairs and a utility room with a wonderful shower cubicle downstairs. You can use the living room to watch TV when we are not around or to use a desk and PC in the study. Food: Food will be provided but you will be expected to prepare your own meals as we rarely ever cook during the working week. We will accommodate your dietary requirements to the extent of an average person of your age (we heard some horror stories!). If you are interested in cooking or would like to try your hand at it, you are free to experiment and cook
