Our family is looking for a new au pair to join us in summer 2018. This will be the 6th au pair to join our family and we have very much enjoyed the experience with our 5 previous au pairs - all of whom have become important parts of our lives. We live in the beautiful city of York which is located in the north of England. York is one of our country’s oldest cities and there is history around every corner. It’s also a popular University city so there is a vibrant and busy feel to the place. By train, London is 2 hours, Manchester is 80 minutes and Edinburgh is 2h 30m. Our home is located approximately 8 minutes walk from the city centre. There is a bus stop close to the house if you do not wish to walk. The nearest cinema can be reached in 1 minutes walk. Lyndon - Father. 45 years old. Lyndon runs a busy marketing consultancy working 4 days in the office and 1 day from home. 2 nights per week is spent away overnight. Cathy - Mother. 38 years old. Cathy is a fertility consultant but is currently taking a break from work to raise the family. There are currently no plans to return to work. By the summetime, our family will be as follows: Florence (Flo). 5 years (6th birthday in February 2019) Flo is a happy and inquisitive girl. She loves to play, sing and read. She is allowed to watch TV only before breakfast so she spends a lot of time having fun in the garden, playing with toys and with friends. Flo attends kindergarten 4 mornings per week in addition to various other classes each week including music. She loves to bake and make things. Chester. 3 (4th birthday in June 2019) Chester is an easy, happy and smiley boy and loves to play. He likes to use his imagination and enjoys physical activity but also quiet time. Baby boy #2. Our 3rd baby is due to arrive in May 2018. We don't have a name yet :)
We are looking for an au pair who can support our family and believes in our gentle philosophy. Our new au pair will be bright, friendly and enjoy having fun with the little ones. We are looking for the following attributes: English to a standard to allow easy communication and for the children to understand what is being said. Able to work under own initiative and not be continually directed. Love of animals. Open to new ways of doing things. Enjoys cooking and understands the importance of eating healthily (we eat a largely vegetarian diet although do eat meat and fish in moderation) Bright disposition. Able to understand children . Positive attitude. The following would be fantastic but not essential: Enjoys making things such as art or crafts Musical. Our au pair will work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. There is no requirement to work at the weekend so you will have Saturday and Sunday to yourself to explore and enjoy England. 20 hours per week will be spent supporting Cathy with the children. The hours will vary from week to week, depending on class schedules and other activities / days out that Cathy may have organised. During these 20 hours you will be playing with one or the other child. It will be rare that you will have both children at the same time. Help is especially important at breakfast and other meal times and this may include preparing food or helping the children to eat. 20 hours per week will be spent keeping the general living areas, and the children’s play room tidy. Our family employs a cleaner and someone to assist with laundry / ironing so the au pair is NOT expected to carry out any domestic duties. It is however expected that the au pair will tidy away after meals, clean work surfaces, load the dishwasher etc. This should take 30 mins after breakfast and 30 minutes after evening meal. As part of the family, we would expect that you would cook the evening meal once or twice per week. We pay our au pair a good, sensible amount for the 40 hours per week and the amount compares well to what you may find elsewhere. It's important that our au pair feels valued and rewarded. Of course, all food and accommodation is provided and we are happy to buy food and drinks that you enjoy eating and cooking. We also provide and pay for the au pair’s mobile phone and if necessary can provide a laptop computer for internet access etc. The au pair’s bedroom is on it’s own floor and has a bathroom that the rest of the family does not use other than to bath the children in the evening. Satellite TV and a Netflix subscription is provided in the au pair’s bedroom. Of course, you may use the TV in the main family area in the evenings once the children are in bed. We are a happy, relaxed and friendly family and view our au pair as part of our family - not an employee. We are looking for someone very special who wants to enjoy their time in England.
