Dear au pair! We are a fun, busy and caring family of four - two working parents and two lovely children, Lara (6) and Samuel (Sammy for short!) (3). I work part-time as a civil servant and my husband works in the private sector - both commuting to London. We are moving back from Dubai to the UK this summer and will be moving into a house in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. Our children will be starting at a local school in September. Lara will be in year 2, Sammy in pre-school. My husband or I will drop them off every morning. We will be living in walking distance of Amersham station, which is a 25 minute train journey into central London (the train line terminates at London Marylebone station). Amersham is a good-sized commuter town with a range of amenities (cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, etc). Amersham old town is particularly pretty and a lovely place to hang out in.
We would like you to work 16-20 hours per week. This would involve picking up the children from school 3 days per week (i.e. the days that I work), taking them home and helping with homework/playing with them and giving them dinner etc. until my husband or I return from work. In addition we would ask for baby-sitting one night per week. We would not ask you to work at weekends or on the days that I am not at work (unless the weekly babysitting evening falls on one of these days). We would expect you to do only light housework related to the kids. Your focus will be ensuring that our children are looked after and having fun after school 3 days. You will need to drive about 15 minutes to pick them up from school (not on a motorway) so will need to have a current driving licence and some driving experience. But we would help you get used to UK driving! We would like you to join our family for a minimum of 6 months, but ideally for longer. We would like you to feel relaxed and welcome in our home but also appreciate that you will want your own space and independence. We will ensure that you have a good-sized and well-appointed room, with TV and wifi, and your own bathroom. If you want to improve your English, we will do everything we can to help (I actually have a TEFL qualification!) and there are several places to learn English in Amersham.
