Hi, We are a fun and relaxed but busy family, looking for an au pair from the EU to join our family and help take care of our two young boys. We would love you to teach them about your language and culture too. We're looking for someone with some experience of childcare who can start immediately and who is looking for a long term position (at least 12 months). We live in Washington, a medium sized town in the north east of England (close to the city of Newcastle). My husband and I both work full time and our two little boys (aged 2 and 4) go to nursery 3 days a week, with the oldest due to start school in September. We also have 4 friendly cats! Our boys are very shy but once you get to know them they are very loving and lots of fun. They love to play outdoors and we often visit a farm or park at the weekend. They also love to do arts & crafts, drawing & painting, reading stories, listening to music, singing & dancing, playing games and doing jigsaws, playing with little cars, dressing up, playing shops...more than anything they like to have someone spend time with them and play with them. Washington is about 20 mins from the city of Newcastle in the north east of England. Newcastle is a great city to live in, it has many shops, bars and restaurants, the people are very friendly and it is not too far from the countryside or the beach. It is also easy to get to other parts of the country if you are interested in seeing other places, there are direct trains to Edinburgh (90 minutes) and London 3 hours). We're looking for someone who can be fairly flexible as the routine will change depending on our work hours, school holidays etc. Responsibilities will generally involve taking care of the children on the days they don't go to nursery (Wed & Thurs) plus before and after nursery during the week, including preparing meals, getting them dressed, taking to nursery/school, bathing etc. We also need someone who would be comfortable looking after the kids overnight sometimes as well as taking care of the cats. We have a cleaner who comes once a week so housework will not be expected, other than tidying up after yourself and after the kids when looking after them. We have a modern 6-bedroom house and the au pair will have their own bedroom with king size bed and ensuite shower room. Saturdays and Sundays (and potentially Fridays) will be days off, although the au pair is very welcome to join us on family days out at the weekend. We often take weekends away and we have family in Scotland so we travel there regularly. We also have family living close by, including with other young children, who can provide help, support and company for the au pair when we are working. We will arrange use of one of our cars for the au pair both while looking after the children and in their own free time. We will make sure you have plenty free time to study, practise your language skills, meet people and make friends, see the local area, travel around the country or even just relax! I studied French and Spanish at uni although I have forgotten a lot (it was a long time ago!) We are keen to make our au pair feel at home and will do whatever we can to help them to settle in and feel comfortable.
