Dear Future Au Pair We would love to have a kind, honest person to become part of our new family for a year or longer. If you're looking to improve your English in a place where there is lots to do, then Jersey is for you! As well as English, we also speak French, Flemish and Dutch and are a truly multi-cultural European home. We live in Saint Helier, the capital of Jersey which is a British island next to France. We live in a semi detached house with a garden in town which is located about two minutes walk from the beach. If you are looking to learn English, learn or play sports or simply make new friends, there's plenty of opportunities which we can help you with or that we would encourage you to discover for yourself. We would love to hear from you to have a quick chat about things, ideally over Skype so you can get a better impression of us and we can answer any questions you might have. Els and Damien
We expect you first and foremost to become part of our new family and to help with our six month old little boy when we can't be there. We are generally away from our home Monday to Friday from about 08h45 to 17h30 but somtimes like to come home at lunchtime. We are looking for someone who is honest, caring, flexible and can take their own initiative, especially when it comes to doing activities on your own with Jack. You will have free reign to do anything that can stimulate him safely. Ideally, we would like to find someone who can commit at least one year if not for longer. We are planning on having an au pair for the next few years so that could be you or we will find a replacement when you leave. We would accept a minimum placement of 10 months. We will expect you to make mistakes, just as we will, so being open and honest at all times is a very high priority for us. It is much more important to us than being the "perfect", trained and qualified au pair. More than babysitting or previous au pair experience, we expect you to be able to do things off your own initiative in a responsible manner and you will have access to the family car during the day for you the discover new locations and do actvities. We would be very keen for you to take Jack to baby swimming lessons. After I go back to work you will be looking after the baby whilst we are both at work until about 5:30 pm and occasionally when we have appointments after work or at the weekend, but you will have plenty of spare time too to make new friends and follow your own hobbies. Whilst I usually clean, my husband usually cooks and we have a cleaner once a week, we would expect you to help with some light housework, keeping the home tidy, as well as some cooking. Essentially we need your help mainly when we are at work and a little bit when we're home. We are very reasonable and want you to have enough time to have your own fun on your own too and will support you as best we can if you want to follow a language or other course. We understand it can be lonely to be in a new country looking after a baby on your own so we will do what we can to involve you in our small family activities and also pay for a trip to your home country twice a year. You will be invited to come on some trips with us too if you fancy it which are likely to be to France, Belgium or neighbouring Europe. Our priority is to look after you as well as we expect you to look after our little Jack :-) Please get in touch if you have any questions.
