Personal introduction

Dear Au Pairs, We are looking for our next family member, someone joining our life for a year, sharing our homes, enjoying the opportunities we offer for a great year abroad whilst contributing in growing up our will-be 5 year old son, Giovanni. You will adore him, that's guaranteed. My name is Daniela, I am 44 and am a doctor in Intensive Care in our local hospital in Lucca. My husband Gianki is 64, he is an orthopedic surgeon, head of department in a hospital in Forte dei Marmi. Giovanni is our son, but Gianki has other 3 from his previous wedding. They are Marta, 16, Stefano 24 and Filippo 26. We get to see them often, they love Giovanni and we get along really well, but we don't live together.  We live on two separate but close cities. Our main home is in Lucca, Tuscany. It is stunning. Quality of life is great. It's close to Pisa and Florence, the coast with beaches and lots of entertainment. Pisa airport 20 minutes away with low cost flights to all European destinations! Gianki owns a house also in La Spezia (Liguria), less than an hour away. It is the closest place to the Cinqueterre, a major touristic area. We have a motorboat in La Spezia. The house has a swimming pool and tennis court, with breathtaking view on the gulf. We also have a house in the mountains, in the Alps under Mount Blanc, in Courmayeur, where we go in the winter for skiing and in the summer for mountaineering. We also own another house at the seaside in Sardinia, an Italian island with the most incredible sea of the world. We usually go there in June and September.

The Au pair's job

Since I work on shifts (either mornings, afternoons or nights, and sometimes on Sundays), the au pair's work is to be there for Giova when I'm not home. Either than that, I am a mother who wants to be there for her son and take care of him. I always consider what the au pair tells me and the au pair's suggestions, in order to have a common line in Giovanni's education. All au pairs have loved Giovanni, I think he will make you happy. He has various activities; kindergarten, pool, tennis. He's also starting to ski when we're out in the mountains. Our main request is for the au pair to be very flexible. I sometimes need to change shifts, have meetings in addition, ask for some evening babysitting for dinners out etc. I have always given the free days asked by the au pair, and made sure the au pair has a lot of time off and opportunity to enjoy the experience, friends, travel, study, work out and so on. It is hard to express exactly in working hours how many each week, and some weeks are very light and some are more work. Also remember it means working sometimes morning sometimes afternoon and sometimes staying home at night with Giova  when I work nights. But I assure you that all au pairs have had plenty of time off and the possibility to learn Italian going to school. I expect and appreciate the au pair to feel a member of the family and behave and contribute appropriately. I have a cleaning lady, the au pair only needs to clean up her room/bathroom, but also help me with tidying up common areas, especially Giova's stuff, work in a team with me in cooking/setting and clearing table/tidying kitchen/going to store, bringing out garbage, feeding cats, closing shutters at night, and any necessary help at home. I think my conduct (ask former au pairs) is fair and does not make the au pair feel like a servant as I hear happening in some families, but as a give/take relationship and reciprocal help and respect on a common sense basis. In Lucca you will have your own bathroom and room on the upper (third floor). Home is an independent house with garden. The au pair will have her own car (Volkswagen Polo) with manual gear which you need to be able to drive . We have two cats at home. And WIFI of course. Weekly pay is 80 euros. We are open to considering anyone applying for the position who is enthusiast and eager to come, our priorities/preferences are: -flexibility -mothertongue english -best if >22-24yrs -best if already lived out (knows what helping out at home means) -clean/tidy -staring date mid/end august 2016 for a one year period -nonsmokers (Gianki smokes out of the house) I am already sorry for Sasha to leave after the summer, but excited to look for a good match for our family, someone worthwhile to invest on to join our family! If you feel you could be the right person, here I am to have a good Skype chat and/or answer any questions that come in your mind, so that we can start to get to know each other.  In faith, Daniela
