Hi there - we are a fun loving, active family of 4 living in beautiful Taupo, New Zealand. We have 2 girls age 6 (Charlie) and 8 (Stevie) and they are both playful children who are full of life. We live in a river side home only a few mintues from Taupo town centre and we enjoy an active lifestyle. In the winter we spend much of our time at Whakapapa Ski Area on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Kim (mum) has her own business and works in an office in town and Steve (dad) works at the ski area one hour from Taupo. We have had several au pairs in the past and have enjoyed welcoming them into our family and sharing a kiwi experience with them. We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know our next au pair!
Stevie and Charlie both go to school in Taupo town in a school where they study full time in the native Maori language. While we primarily speak English at home, we do embrace our Maori heritage and culture. Kim is from Canada orginially and we have had several au pairs from Germany and we love learning about other cultures. The children go to school from 9am to 3pm and then after school have several activities they attend including swimming lesssons and sea scouts. They love outings to the library, the park and the pools. They also love music, dance, craft and baking and are very creative and imaginative. We usually need our au pair to work Mon to Friday during the day with weekends off. Some evening or weekend babysitting hours are sometimes required. Steve and Kim leave early in the morning so our au pair needs to do the breakfast and lunch preparation and then drop the kids to school. Once a week both girls have an English lesson during school hours off site and our au pair needs to be able to drop them to this class. Our au pair then needs to collect them from school and look after them until about 6 to 630pm. They have various after school activities that they need to attend. In addition to watching and playing with the children, our au pair needs to be pro active in helping out around the house with light duties. This may include loading/unloading the dishwasher, keeping the kitchen tidy, keeping the children's rooms tidy, helping with laundry, vacuming etc. They also need to keep their own room and bathroom clean and tidy. Some family dinner meal preparation is also required. We have always treated our au pair as if they are part of the family and we invite and expect our au pair to join in on our family time when possible. We open our home and ask that our au pair respect it as if were there own.
