Sometime in the not-too-distant future, I shall be requiring a live-in Au Pair (or two) to run the house for me. The house is situated in Little Venice, which is a nice, leafy, 'villagy' sort of area, right in the heart of London, next to the Regent's canal. Although compact in appearance, it is deceptively large, totaling around 2500 sqft, so as you can imagine, the prospect of me looking after it by myself, singlehandedly, is not that appealing. There are excellent transport links here, with Warwick Avenue tube station just down the road, the local high st (Clifton Rd) located right behind the house (making the daily grocery shopping very easy) and Paddington Station (including the Heathrow-Express) being only a stone's throw away. Having lived with cigar-smoke for 2 years, and being extremely exercise-orientated at the moment, I would prefer to have non-smokers living here, perhaps those who are of a healthy/athletic mindset, such as myself (as opposed to those who chuck empty beer cans out of the window and take 2-3 mins to find a suitable spot on the foot-high ash-pile with which to place their umpteenth cigarette butt). I am partial to the appearance, but more importantly the demeanour, of the Nordic peoples, and although the idea of having the quintessential Mary Poppins prancing around here, might seem nice in theory, in practice I would rather have those who are of a quiet, humble, demure kind of nature (somewhere between a Nun and Rab C Nesbitt should do the trick).
The daily duties and shared responsibilities shall include: 1) The tidying of the kitchen / dining area (this is the only 'daily' task which is necessary; the others may be spread out during the course of the week and may be addressed at the appropriate times). 2) The daily grocery shopping on Clifton Rd behind the house, for titbits and sundries etc. 3) Once a week to take delivery of, and to sort the supermarket groceries delivery service (Waitrose). 4) To maintain the upkeep of your bedroom and en-suite bathroom. 5) To be present to sign-for and take delivery of various consumer-goods, every now and again (usually around 9am). -- Apart from the organizing of the kitchen, which ought to be on a daily basis, there is no set timetable for which to do the other things, and so you will have a lot of free-time to go about your personal business, be it attending college / exploring London / projects / doing whatever you want etc. I like the idea of living in a clean, functional environment, perhaps with a slight air of 'flatmate-ish' atmosphere about the place, where everyone helps out a little bit. There is quite a lot of clutter here, which I am hoping to sort out and get rid of, and I intend to do some refurbishment work when the time comes, to upgrade certain things to a much higher standard (especially on the top floor). So as long as everything is clean, and everything is where it ought to be, I shall be very happy indeed.
