We are the Duffing Family, Tiffany, Marc, Jasmin who is nine, and Marcus who turned two in August and is already toilet trained. We live in Fairfax Station, Virginia, which is about thirty minutes from Washington D.C.. We love our area because we are close enough to all the action but are far enough away so we don't have to deal with all the traffic and craziness of the city and can also have a large yard so the kids can play. Our family enjoys spending time together relaxing in our yard or the house as well as exploring all the wonderful parks and attractions that are nearby. Our children adore each other and Jasmin is a lovely helper to her brother. She is smart, outgoing, and likes to be independent. Jasmin enjoys being goofy and playing make believe with others. Marcus enjoys exploring, playing pretend, and playing outside. He really enjoys helping, being interactive, and exploring local areas. Both children really enjoy having the space to complete tasks on their own. They do best when helped by showing them how and helping, versus doing it for them or just telling them what to do without showing them. I, Tiffany, enjoy having time with the family and engaging in a variety of activities in the area. I believe it is important to have an encouraging home environment where each person feels valued and understood. Marc is more quiet and reserved until he gets to know you and once he does, he's goofy and a jokester. He enjoys being involved in the family while also doing chores around the house and garden. Our family enjoys gardening, bike riding, hiking, visiting local wineries and parks, visiting local farms and picking fruits, visiting amusement parks, craft projects, visiting the beach, playing board games, playing creative games like carnival and magic shows, flying kites, swimming, kayaking, boating, camping, exercising, baking, and watching Netflix. We have family in Florida and Tennessee that we like to visit once a year and Marc also has family in Germany which is where he was born. Our family is looking for an AuPair that wants to be part of our family and community while also feeling secure enough to explore her surroundings and create additional social connections. We value learning about other cultures and look forward to learning about our AuPairs traditions and favorite meals. Our son is very easy to bond with after some warm-up time. Our daughter would love to feel like our AuPair is her big sister. She is most likely to connect with someone who will play with her and share common interests but is a little shy at first so the Au Pair will need to be able to work to connect with her. Jasmin is more hesitant when building relationships and will thrive with an AuPair that is kind, funny, goofy, can enforce rules, and will find creative ways to play and engage her. We would like to build a relationship with an AuPair that can balance the responsibilities of taking care of everyday kid related tasks with ensuring the children have fun and laugh. An ideal AuPair will respect our house rules and also use her own judgement to create fun routines, help the children grow, and make decisions when we are gone. It is important that our AuPair understand child development and can use that knowledge to build relationships, identify age appropriate activities, help them learn through fun, and build their confidence through exploration and a supportive relationship. We need someone that is comfortable driving safely in the congestion of nearby cities. We would also like someone who enjoys being active, swimming, likes dogs and will help us care for our dog when we are working. We live in a suburban area that has plenty of trees, grass, and parks. This area houses many people who commute to nearby Washington D.C. as well as the other smaller cities in the area such as Alexandria, Fairfax, Springfield, and Burke. Our house is in a quiet area surrounded by trees and nature and it's not unusual to see a deer or a fox out our window. However, we are also a short drive to many activities such as restaurants, grocery store, shopping malls, and thriving towns with sidewalks and cafes. Our county has some of the most robust recreation centers, festivals, and family-centered events in the country. There is always something to do and plenty of towns to visit. Additionally, we are about fifteen minutes from a metro station, Franconia-Springfield, from which you can take a metro to Washington D.C and surrounding areas. There are two major airports thirty minutes from our house, IAD and DCA, and another major airport in Maryland, BWI, which is a little over an hour away. There are also plenty of train and bus stations in the area so it's fairly easy to travel from our location and take weekend trips to places like New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond, Virginia Beach, and more.
Our Au Pair's primary job would be to help take care of Marcus and Jasmin, share a little love with our dog Dutch, and help around the house with cooking and straightening up the children's toys. We usually make a weekly dinner menu and would appreciate if our Au Pair could cook at least one meal a week (or more if she wants). We try to publish a schedule a month ahead of time so the Au Pair can plan her time off. The Au Pair would sometimes take Jasmin or Marcus to school in the mornings (Marcus goes to pre-school two days a week for a half day) and then pick them up after school. Our Au Pair would also help take Jasmin to some of her after school activities (Cheerleading, swimming, Girl Scouts) and take Marcus to various activities in the area.
