Personal introduction

Dear Au pair Hi My name is Chloe, My husband is Matt. We have a little boy called Tayler who is almost four and a daughter called Caris who is eighteen months old. We live in a village in Essex that has brilliant train links into London. We share our house with our two cocker spaniels and our cat. Matt and I are both police officers, we work different hours but are both at home a lot of the time. Our children are both clever, funny and outgoing. They love to be outside playing or inside watching a film together or painting or playing. I am a vegetarian but Matt and the children are not. We both do not smoke and do not want an au pair who smokes at all. We can't wait to welcome the right au pair into our home. We live in a small village called West Horndon. Tayler's pre-school is three houses away. He goes there two mornings and one full day a week. Caris stays at home in the daytime. There is a group for toddlers in the village church on a Tuesday morning where you can meet local children and mums. There is a small playground nearby, some shops, a cafe and a pub. Five minutes walk from our house is the train station. It takes under twenty minutes to reach London, or twenty minutes in the other direction to visit the seaside. You can walk to a large nature reserve from our house for long walks. We are very close to my parents who live on a farm and have horses and we usually visit them at the weekend to walk our dogs and maybe even one of the horses. We love you to join us. Every day we eat breakfast and dinner at the table as a family. Every week we go swimming at our gym as a family and Matt and I exercise there regularly. At the moment our house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms but we are having an extension in the new year. When it is finished our au pair can have a bigger bedroom and will share a bathroom with only the children. At the moment we will all share both bathrooms and the children will share a bedroom.

The Au pair's job

I work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then one weekend in a month. Matt works all different hours. The hours we need you to look after the children vary from week to week. Sometimes it is only fifteenhours a week, sometimes it is twentyfour hours. Plus we would like to go out at the weekend in the evening on our own a couple of times a month for a few hours. Sometimes we need you to have the children in the evenings so they will be in bed usually by seven p.m. and you just have to stay at home to keep them safe. Other times Matt will be at home sleeping after working nights and can look after the children as soon as he wakes up. The advantage of living with us is that Matt works for five days and then has five days off so you will have a lot of time to yourself to explore the UK and meet your friends. Matt also used to be a chef so he is very good at cooking. If we Skype I can show you our working days and how much help we need looking after the children. We would like you to tidy up around the children when you are looking after them and cook the family dinner if we are not home to do that. We would also like you to tidy up after yourself. We want you to make yourself at home and be part of the family.
