Personal introduction

My husband and I both work full time in the City, and live in the London Borough of Southwark, south east of central London. We have two energetic boys who attend full time school. I am originally from the United States, and my husband is from Yemen. We love the diversity of London and are happy to bring up our boys in such a varied and exciting place. We value hard work, good manners, integrity, and of course having fun! We each have our own hobbies--I love gardening, my husband boxing, and our boys love swimming and taekwondo.

The Au pair's job

After a few years of having a nanny, we are starting to consider hiring an au pair that can do school runs and look after our boys after school and during school holidays. They would need to take the boys to their after school activities, and make sure they complete their homework. We would need this person to do some cleaning around the house as well (cleaning kitchen, bathrooms, tidying, dusting, vacuuming), and the boys' laundry (but not ours). They would also need to make the boys their meals--but we don't do heavy cooking so this shouldn't be a heavy task. Generally, the hours would be: During school term: 8-9am and 3 to 7pm Monday through Friday; During school holidays: 8am to 7pm Monday through Friday. No weekends are required. During school term time when the boys are at school, and assuming their other tasks in the house are completed, the au pair would have their own time to explore London or take classes. The au pair would have their own room with a bed and built in closets, where there is also a bathroom on the same level as their bedroom. It is a shared bathroom but we have two in the house. We have wifi and a playroom on the same level as their bedroom that has a Smart TV as well so they have some space they can use rather than having to sit with the family downstairs if they don't want to. We will provide a London Oyster card that can be used to travel on buses, trains and tube on an unlimited basis in Zones 1 and 2, as well as £150 per week in spending money. We will provide the au pair's food in the house and accommodation--they will need to pay for their own phone and other costs like entertainment, tourism and eating out.
