We are a family of four. A teacher and an actress (frequently away), two small boys and a cat named Squishy. Our 5-year-old has autism, but he is a very easy, self-contained child. The 2-year-old is obsessed with food.
You would be mostly looking after the two-year-old for 9 hours a day, and dropping off/picking up the older child from school and taking him to language therapy. This would be 5 days a week, two or three weeks of the month. You would also look after the children for either a few hours one evening a week or on day on the weekend. The au pair would receive one week off every month, when he/she could travel around Spain or Europe.
