Hello, we are Tara, Cookie Monster and PanKwake (will give real names later). Tara is full-time homemaker and blogger. She has recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which is kicking her tail at this point. She is the mother of six…most of whom are probably older than you. She is approachable and laid back. You can talk to her about anything. Anything! Cookie Monster is techie guru extraordinaire (no seriously…he really is). He works from home and keeps a bit odd hours…usually his day does not begin until 3 PM and can continue past midnight. He had loads of conference calls but usually pops his head out in between them. He was married for 25 years with no children until his wife dies. Then Tara and PanKwake barged into his life with a can of fake poo and home baked chocolate cookies. Rather than running for the hills like any sane man…he actually took these two on…Crazzy and all. PanKwake…of course, she is the reason we need you. She is eleven years old so quite a bit older than most of the children. She is autistic. A specific but little known and controversial typology called Pathological Demand Avoidance. She also has been diagnosed with epilepsy, though working on two years medication and seizure free. She has dyspraxia, dyslexia and likely ADHD. But none of that stops her for long. And we hope it won’t stop you from considering us either.
What we are looking for: * Active – honestly hyper-active is fine too. * Young – at least at heart, more of a playmate than an authority figure. * Flexible and open-minded – little is set in stone in this house. * Highly proficient English speaker – while it is not necessary to be native speaker, since communication is challenging for those on the autistic spectrum, it is essential that you speak and understand English very well. * Gamer girl – Minecraft, Roblox, and Steam as well as iPad. YouTube knowledgeable. * Amusement park aficionado – Higher, faster, more, More, MORE is PanKwake’s motto. * Crazzy – if your friends and family are worried you will have trouble fitting in, you won’t with us. Duties: Unlike other au pair positions, you will NOT have primary responsibility for PanKwake. It is likely to be weeks or months before you are left alone with her. Not because we don’t trust you, but because we want both you and her to know one another and be totally comfortable with each other before we put either of you in that position. Then gradually beginning with brief fifteen minute or half hour shopping expeditions close to home and work up from there. Instead this is more of a Mommy Helper post. You would play with and entertain PanKwake while Tara worked on the computer, cleaned or spent time with friends. A primary duty may be to play games with and read the screen chats to PanKwake. Perhaps even play dolls or paint nails with her. All the stuff that a Big Sister would do.
