Personal introduction
Hello, my name is Mara and I live in Tyrol, Austria. I am 17 years old and will be 18 in October. The reasons why I am applying to be an au pair are, first and foremost, that I enjoy spending time with children. Secondly, I have been interested in visiting Scandinavia and the northern part of Europe for some time, both in terms of landscape and culture. I am fascinated by learning new languages and find that I can pick them up quite quickly. I am fluent in English and I can understand and speak French, as I have been studying it at school for four years and have obtained my A-levels in it, both written and spoken. I am often told that I am a fun-loving, adventurous, respectful, and empathetic person, and I think that is quite true. I enjoy doing lots of things and discovering new things, but I also need some peace and quiet sometimes. I've been thinking about being an au pair for a few years now, and I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and getting to know a new culture. I really hope to bring a bit of Austrian culture and atmosphere to Northern Europe, as well as gaining valuable life experiences through this intercultural exchange. I already have experience babysitting. I'm very reliable and responsible. I'm a very creative person. Since I was little, I've had a passion for drawing, crafting, and painting, and after my au pair stay, I plan to study art history in Vienna. After that, I'll start training as a goldsmith. I've always planned to turn my hobby into my career. I've also been playing the guitar for 13 years. My creativity also shows in the kitchen ;) I love creating and trying out new recipes, especially nutritious dishes. The landscape in the region where I live is mountainous, so I spend a lot of time outdoors, hiking and swimming in the summer and cross-country skiing and sledding in the winter. My family and I place a lot of importance on traveling, so I've been used to being open to new cultures and activities since I was little. I still live with my mother (Barbara) and my father (Michael) in Tyrol, Austria. My older sister Lea (23) has already moved away to study at university in Vienna, but we still spend a lot of time together and often visit her in Vienna. Family time has always been a big priority for us. My mom is from Bregenz on Lake Constance, and we own a sailboat, so we always spend the summer sailing. I plan to get my sailing license next year.
