Persönliche Einführung

Hello! My name is Maia, I am 18 years old and this June, I graduated from secondary school in Bonn, Germany, where I've been living for the past seven years with my parents, my two younger sisters and three cats. Right now, I plan on taking a gap year before I begin my studies next fall and hope to be able to see a little more of the world. I am looking forward to being able to explore a new culture fully immersed in the local lifestyle! Before moving back to Germany in 2018, I spent 5 years abroad in Southern Africa with my family, attending an English-speaking international school, and ever since, I've loved the idea of another opportunity to explore cultures different from my family's and learn more languages - I would also love to be able to find a job later on that allows exactly that. As for my family- I think we all share that love for new connections (and we've been promising ourselves to find a new placement abroad for the past 7 years, so now that I've finished school, it'stime to take things into my own hands:)). My sisters are 14 and 15 years old, my parents work as a primary school teacher and in developmental aid respectively (which is how we ended up in Africa in the first place). We're generally a very lively family, there's always something going on at home - guests over, cooking together and so on, and of course I'm a big fan of our three cats, which we brought back all the way from Africa. I've visited my mom's school occasionally on days off or for career exploration, helping out in lessons, with games during recess and P.E. class, and I've loved working with younger children. For the past year, I also worked as a tutor at my own school - helping out either one-on-one or in group settings in English, German and French with kids from 10 to 15. Being the oldest of five cousins, I've always taken care of my sisters at home and my younger cousins and their friends at family get-togethers, and loved playing right alongside them. In general, I would describe myself as active, fun-loving and responsible, I enjoy reading, writing, card and board games and all things arts-and-crafts. I like to stay active - I've been in a hip hop dance group since sixth grade, and have found a lot of fun in trying out other sports. I'm excited to find a family that values open, friendly connection and a positive atmosphere and would also greatly appreciate clear and open communication concerning daily structures and routines, working hours and free time as well as the tasks and activities expected of me to ensure everyone is comfortable! I'm looking forward to building a warm, familiar connection while also respecting each other's downtime. I love the idea of having a relaxed, open relationship where I can feel part of the family but still have space for myself when I’m off duty. I also appreciate being able to make my own choices, so a family that encourages autonomy and values a healthy balance of work and free time is really important to me. I’m excited to share a bit of my German language and culture if you’re interested — and I can’t wait to see what we can learn from each other!
