Hello! We are Katie and Luigi, two engineers in California looking for someone who loves to ask questions and learn new things to help us care for our new daughter and teach her to explore the world! She is social, active and loves to smile. She has so much energy and is always excited to go to new places, try new things, and meet new friends! We are very interested in the cultural exchange aspect of the Au Pair program, so we hope you will be interested in learning about our family and participating in daily life in America. However, we are a quiet family and we also like to spend time reading or meditating by ourselves, and will respect our Au Pair's need for privacy and alone time as well. You would live in a sunny upstairs bedroom with lots of windows and a small closet. There is a half-bath (sink and toilet) right outside the bedroom. Also upstairs is a small lounge and the baby's room. We have a spacious garden with fruit trees, a vegetable garden, and flowers. Our house is on a quiet street in a neighborhood with parks, grocery stores, a hospital, a pharmacy and many restaurants within walking distance. Public transit (bus and train) is available - you can go to San Francisco! If you are a safe driver, you can borrow our car after work, but we don't need you to drive our baby and it is a good neighborhood for walking and biking. Our community is very international. There will be many friends and families here who speak your language!
We are looking for an Au Pair (must qualify for J1 in USA, between 18 and 26 years of age with 200 hours of Infant Care experience) to feed and care for our baby (from 13 months). Read and sing to her in your language and English. Change her diaper and keep her area clean. Take her for walks in the park and play with her. Show her by example how to do simple activities. We are interested in the Montessori philosophy of child-led learning and early responsibilities. We would like to treat our children with respect and expect them to participate in household activities (cooking, cleaning) from an early age. We will follow the US State Department guidelines of no more than 10 hours per day or 45 hours per week, in exchange for the required salary. We will provide an iPhone and Internet access. You won't be required to drive, but if you would like to borrow the car sometimes, we can discuss it. Perfect English is not a requirement - we would be happy to help you learn, especially if you speak Japanese. (Katie is conversational in Japanese.) If you'd like to join us on family vacations (we love to ski and hike) you are welcome, and we will cover your expenses. Two community colleges are within bicycling distance.
