Dear au pair, My name is Juha Ruuska and I am a single father with joint custody of a beautiful 5 year old daughter named Aida. I own and operate a few technology companies in the music field in Finland. My office is adjoining our home, so I am never too far away unless I am at business meetings. We have had an au pair from Spain named Sandra for the past 1 1/2 years and we have mutually agreed that it's time to make a change. She has become a part of our family and is fortunate to land a teaching position in Helsinki after searching for many months. Sandra has generously offered to help the acclimation process for you to make it as easy as possible to become familiar with our routines. I hired an au pair from Spain 1 1/2 years ago because I wanted Aida to become fluent in Spanish. We have a second home in Spain and I wanted her to be comfortable with the language. Not surprisingly, Aida is now fluent in Spanish and has expressed a desire to become fluent in English. English is the second language spoken in my life and she hears me speaking it all the time. We spend time with an American family whose children only speak English to her and she is picking it up quickly.
One of the most important things I expect is flexibility. I have to take business trips from time to time and I need to be sure that the au pair is taking care of Aida while I'm away. This is the only demanding or work intensive times of this job... I have Aida every other week. Aida attends pre-school Monday - Friday 8am to 2 pm. The au pair will take her and pick her up to and from school which is 5 minutes away from our home on the weeks that I have custody. During the school day and on the weeks that Aida is with her mother, the au pair will do light housework, shopping and errands as required. There is plenty of free time during the day and I am very flexible. The au pair will help prepare meals and prepare Aida for bed and then is free.
