Dear Au pair, we are a family of 4, living in Valence, in the south of France. We live in a big flat the city center of Valence, which means you can walk almost everywhere. And we have a 22 square meters room for you! Valence is a nice city with flair close to the countryside which you can reach by TGV (French high speed train) within 2 hours from Paris, one hour from Marseille and 40 minutes from Lyon. It is also close to the French Alps. Here you can go hiking, cycling, skiing… Our 2 sons, Axel and Célestin, are 6 and 3 years old. They are used to living with an Au pair as Joanna from Canada and Rebecca from the US have been with us for some time. They are lively, energetic, polite, bright and pretty funny, they get along well together and love to learn English (so funny to hear them speak English already!). Axel is quite independent, while Célestin is a little rascal. They have a lot of fun together and love to play cars, as well as outdoor activities such as cycling, tennis, skiing... Axel goes to primary school and Célestin to the kindergarden which are closeby (5 minutes walk from our flat). I work in Valence, 10 min away from home by car. My husband Greg works in Vienne, 45 min away by train. He travels a lot for work, all around the world. We are both open to different cultures, as we both used to live in Germany and in India. We speak English and German fluently.
We expect a lot of interaction between you and the kids. We need you to entertain them, find games, practice sports (ball game, tennis, cycling...). We want them to have fun with you and you with them! We would need someone to take care of our kids with me in the morning before school and without me after school until dinner time, all day on Wednesdays, one or two evenings per week and a couple of hours on saturdays. Over the week, in the morning, basically you would help taking care of them when they have breakfast, getting them dressed and taking them to school. In the afternoon, you would pick them up from school, get them have a snack, take them to have fun outside or at home depending on the weather, give them a bath. You would prepare dinner for them. On Wednesdays, you would play with them, prepare lunch and a snack for them, take them out or stay at home playing. On Saturdays we would need you to stay with them in case we have to do the grocery for instance or if we are busy, and with the eldest in the early afternoon while we get a rest. In general we would expect you to take care of the kids' stuff, to teach them to tidy up their room for instance. We would need your help on daily household activities to keep the house clean and tidy. We would ask you occasionally to do small stuff such as going to the post office for us, buying bread, going to the dry cleaner...
