We are an American family who has been living in Brisbane, Australia for 9 years. Ethan and I (Margie) are both university professors (biologists) with two little boys, Jasper (7) and Malcolm (4) We also have a cat and four chickens. Our house is in a quiet suburb a few km from the city centre and it has excellent bike and bus access to the city centre. We are easy-going outdoorsy people looking for someone who is nice, reliable and generally helpful around the house. Both our boys are energetic and like to play outdoors. Jasper loves legos and star wars. Malcolm is a big personality, with a desire to do anything his brother is doing but also loves ball sports, imaginary play and running around. Our main goal in getting an au pair is to get extra help with the boys and to expose the boys to people from other parts in the world.
We are looking for someone who can stay with us for 6-12 months. Jasper is in school and Malcolm goes to daycare all but one day a week so we need the most help getting the boys ready for school and then when they get home in the evenings. We also go out one night a week and we ask for help for a few hours on the weekend. This leaves the days and most evenings free for our au pairs. The position also involves watching Malcolm one full day during the week and helping watch either boy if they are home sick from school. Both of us travel occasionally and we ask for additional help when one or other other of us is away. Other duties include occasional cooking (not required, just if you like to cook!) and generally helping keep the house tidy (put away toys, put the dishes in the dish washer, wiping counters etc.). We are looking for a considerate person who will participate as a member of our family.
