We are looking for a kind, fun-loving au pair to join our happy and positive family looking after our two wonderful boys (12 and 14) near London. We have had live-in nannies and au pairs continuously for the last decade, so we are very experienced in what makes a good au-pair-host-family relationship and how to live happily together. We want to provide a supportive environment in which for you to look after our children and be part of our family but also want to encourage your independence and personal growth. We need any applicant to have an appropriate Visa / right to be an au pair in the UK. Our region We live in the centre of Woking which is a town in Surrey near London. We are walking distance to the mainline train station where you can be in London (Waterloo, right in the centre) in 25 minutes. It’s very easy to pop in for a day / evening (Mark travels in every day to work) so very convenient. You can also travel to the coast (Portsmouth / Southampton) on the train in the other direction in under an hour. We are very close to the 2 biggest airports in the UK - 25 minutes to London Heathrow and 40 minutes to London Gatwick so you really have the world at your feet! Woking town centre is also only 10 minutes’ walk away which has lots of great shops, restaurants and bars. The house is also 5 minutes walk from Woking Park which is a lovely peaceful space and also has a leisure centre with swimming pool, a gym, fitness classes, badminton and squash courts. Many of the school families have au pairs so there is a great au pair network here and plenty of opportunity to make new friends. In addition there are numerous colleges nearby and in London holding courses in all disciplines.
Our daily routine • We generally leave for work around 7am and get back around 7.30pm. Mark commutes into London 4 days a week and Sarah does not work every day in the hospital so is also often around to help out. • The children are at school in term time from around 8am to so would need your help between around 6.30am to 8am to get the kids up and breakfasted and make sure Alex gets the bus on time and Jamie is dropped off at the station for his train at 7.45. In the evening you would need to pick Jamie up from school on three days a week at 5.15 and Alex usually makes his own way home either on the train or bus. We are usually home by 7.30pm. They occasionally will need some help with homework. • Our au pair must be able to drive – You will have your own car to use. • We have a cleaner who cleans the house from top to bottom every week Tasks, schedule and pocket money . • In general when the children are at school we would need your help between around 6.30am and 8 am in the morning to get them up, breakfasted, dressed and dropped to school and then from 5pm to around 7.30pm when we get home. This would mean cooking them dinner and helping them with any homework. As they are 12 and 14 they are in general very self-sufficient so it's more a case of being a "big sister" to them rather than heavy childcare duties. • Additional tasks that we would ask you do do during the week would be light tidying duties (of the kitchen, playroom and boys’ rooms) as well as the family washing. We have cleaners who do a full house clean and do the ironing every week. We might ask you occasionally to do small tasks for us like picking up dry cleaning or dropping a parcel to the post office but you will have plenty of free time otherwise during the day. • Typically your working hours would be less than 20 hours a week in term time. In school holidays we would need more hours than this to cover our working hours (bearing in mind Sarah doesn’t work every day) but generally no more than 30 hours or so. The kids will also be attending holiday clubs on some days. • Babysitting we would like in principle 2 evenings a week (although we very rarely go out twice in a week!!) With mutual agreement we would pay extra for other days. • Weekends are generally free for our au pair.. Occasionally we would ask you to help out over the weekend by mutual agreement but these are few and far between. • We are happy to pay between around £150-200 per week depending on hours agreed and if you are the right person!
