We are Missy and Ron and we currently reside in Houston, Texas. Our family returned to Houston four years ago after we lived abroad from 2010 - 2014. We spent 2 years in Morocco followed by 2 years in Canada. Ron currently owns and runs his own business. His job takes him all over the Houston area to various construction jobs. His hours can be erratic and since Missy teaches at dual curriculum school, her days extend about an hour longer than most typical school day. Thus we need for an extra pair of hands to help make sure our children are able to get to and from school, stay on task with homework and piano practice, as well having an additional driver available in the family. Here is a bit about who we are and what we are like -- We have 4 wonderful children but only 3 live at home. Our eldest son Robert is 27, married, and is in the US Navy. He lives in South with his own family. We have 3 children that live at home in Houston with us and all are school aged. Our youngest son named Eli – will be 12 years old in January 2018, our middle son named Hobie- is 13 years old and our eldest daughter named Hannah – is 16 years old. Our children are involved in music and art and Hobie and Hannah attend Middle school and High school for visual and performing arts. Eli attends a small private school with a great visual arts program and he also attends art classes at the Art Museum. All 3 kids play piano, Hannah and Hobie sing, and Hobie plays the saxophone too. He also plays baseball on his middle school team.
What are we looking for? We are in search of a special au pair, female or male that really loves children and has a desire to become part of our family. We need a person that is a self-starting and can help with the children and our home. For example : helping the children get ready for school, guiding them in making their beds, preparing and feeding them breakfast and driving them to and from school, help with homework, take children to after school activities and cook dinner for the children when needed. Because our children are older and in school during the year, a normal weekday begins about 5:30AM and our au pair would work until 10:30 AM. Once the children are at school, the job would consist of washing children’s laundry, tidying and cleaning the children’s bedrooms, their bathrooms, and their spaces (such as the game room). We do not watch the clock, so if these tasks are completed prior to 10:30 AM, you are done and are free to do whatever you wish until car pool pick up after school at 3:30PM. In the afternoon she/he would then give the children a snack, remind them to do homework, drive the children to after school activities and may need to sometimes (although this is rare) we may need our au pair to make the children dinner. The au pair’s work day would end by 7:30PM. If we eat as a family, our au pair would be finished after dinner and family dinner clean up. Saturday and Sunday are both off days. We understand that cleaning up after the children is not most fun or the best part of an au pairs job, however, we need someone willing to do childcare related housework. That said, we prefer to have our au pair assist us in empowering the children to be responsible for putting their dirty laundry in the basket, making their beds and put belongings away (where they belong), putting away their own clean and folded laundry, and feed our dogs. We ask our au pair to guide and supervise the children as they do this (or just check to make sure that they completed these tasks). We expect that our au pair will assist us in keeping the areas where the children play and hang out (inside and outside) neat, tidy, vacuumed and dusted. Of course, we ask that our au pair clean up after any child related meals or snacks in the kitchen too and everyone in the house helps to keep our home neat. We do have a housekeeper that comes to do a deep clean of our home 1 time every other week. Ideally our au pair will have experience working with kids and have a genuine love of children. We need someone that will embrace our children’s busy schedules during the school year as they attend full days of school and have various activities after school near our home. We really want someone that is as interested in us as we are in them. We strive to have that family-like bond with our au pair and we hope to make their time in Houston and the USA a special and memorable one.
