We're a quiet family of three looking for a live-in au pair to help us with school pick-ups/drop-offs, occasional babysitting and some light housework. Dad works five days a week (Monday to Friday). Mum works four days (Monday to Saturday). Four-year old boy goes to school 8:30 - 15:00 (Monday to Friday). He is very gentle and kind to others. Funny and chatty and really enjoys playing cars, trains and on his bike, and the company of friends and family. During the school term, the work will be light and mostly in the week: drop off and pick up from school, some light tidying up, simple cooking, and some occasional babysitting. There would be some full days of childcare during the school holidays. We can be flexible, though, as we would like him to attend forest school and other clubs. We value routine, creativity, fun and learning. We are not disciplinarian, and favour encouragement, support and communication over rules and consequences. So we are looking for someone who is organised, imaginative, energetic and patient. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is engaging and ready to form good relationships with the family, especially with our little boy. The right person should be a good cook, have worked as an au pair before and have good references. Experience of working with preschoolers would be a bonus. Looking forward to hearing from you! During the holidays the hours will be longer although usually our son will attend holiday clubs. We can agree a change in compensation for holiday times depending on how your hours change.
Weekday duties: • Put out breakfast and clear up, prepare school snack • Get our son ready for his (school) day • Collecting from school or after school activities/organising play dates Helping motivate our son to keeping his bedroom tidy Helping keep communal areas tidy • Clothes washing & putting away • Boy’s bedding change once every two weeks • Family dinner (simple, quick and healthy) Monday to Friday, happy for you to have your meals with us if you feel like it Occasional shopping for food. Grocery shop and across the road (stock up on fresh fruit and veg when it runs out in between food deliveries). • Loading dishwasher and ensuring the kitchen is clear and tidy • Get our son ready for bed (shower, sometimes toothbrushing, though story time will normally be one of us) Other bits: • 4 weeks paid holiday, ideally taken when we take ours or when we are not working • Non-smoker • DBS checked with at least 2 checkable references (1 recent) • UK resident or able to stay in the UK for at least a year • £120-£150 per week term time depending on experience. Upper range only for exceptional and very experienced candidates. • You would have your own room and wi-fi. • Good command of English We would like you to feel part of the family, be someone who our son loves to be around and who loves being with him, enjoys entertaining and being entertained by him but can also knows how to set boundaries and keep him motivated. We need someone who has lots of get up and go and doesn’t always need to be told what to do. If you are interested please send your latest CV, photo and a covering letter, but please only respond if you are genuinely interested in little kids, like a giggle, love cooking and are in the UK.
