Dear Au-pair, I went to London as an au-pair at the age of 18 to learn english. I was very lucky to find a lovely family, and from an initial 6 month request I ended up living with the family for 2.5 years. I understand the importance of finding a place you can call home, where you feel at ease and with a nice atmosphere. We have had au-pairs a few years ago and are still in touch with them and they still visit us regularly every year. We are a healthy family, we don't eat ready/junk food, I love cooking and baking, and I like the house to be clean and tidy, I would like the person to respect and share our way of living, also since you will be a good example for the girls. Its important that you share this way of living. We are an italian family but have lived many years abroad (England and Ireland) and our girls (3 1/2 and 5) are bilingual (Italian/english). I only speak english to them and the father Italian. My girls "play language" is english and I would prefer a person with a good level of english to speak english to the girls, but of course my husband and I can speak Italian to you at home. We both work full time and my husband is often away on business trips. Both girls attend Kindergarten from 9-16:30. We live in a nice area in Bologna, walking and cycling distance to parks and playgrounds, with nice pools close by and only 10-15 mins bus trip to the city center, with bus stops 50m from our home.
Some experience with children is required, you will have to be able to independently look after and entertain our girls, and also help with some housework/cooking. We are looking for someone who will blend in with the family, be part of it, a bit of a big sister for our girls. It is important to us that you are a very flexible,reliable, punctual, responsible, caring, genuine, solar and sociable person with good manners, who loves young children and always has a smile for our girls and enjoys playing and doing activities with children. We need help in the morning with breakfast, getting girls ready, taking them to school and then doing some light house chores (hoovering, moping floors, cleaning up kitchen, keeping girls bedroom and bathroom clean and tidy, ironing kids laundry) and then picking them up at school around 16:30, take them to activities, playground etc and helping out with preparing dinner and help cleaning up after dinner. I need someone flexible who will look after them when they are home off sick, during school strikes etc (which hopefully won't happen a lot!) and during the school holidays. The weekends would generally be free so you can go on trips and explore the many beautiful cities close to Bologna and we might need some occasional evening babysitting. Non smoking au-pair only. Start date from February to May 2017, ideally 9-12 months or longer.
