We are a British family living in the countryside in the southwest of France, about 1 hr from Bordeaux. We have three girls aged 10, 5 and 7 months. We are all bilingual French/English. We are looking for a Spanish or Italian speaker to come and join us and share their language and culture with us! We live in the Gironde, France in a detached house in the country with a large garden. The house was recently renovated. We have to drive to the nearest shops but we are not completely isolated and have charming neighbours. We are a family of five (Mum, Dad & 3 girls) plus one dog (who lives outside). Our two oldest girls, 10 and 5 go to our local schools every day on the school bus. Our baby stays at home as she is only 7 months old. I am a freelancer, working from home and my husband is setting up his own business. So we are looking for a helping hand for the day to day family organisation.
Work includes looking after baby three mornings per week, playing games in Spanish or Italian with 5 yr old after school, Spanish or Italian lessons for 10yr old twice a week, preparing two authentic evening meals per week, taking one child to piano lesson once a week, and picking up kids from school twice a week. Cleaning tasks are limited to four hours a week and 1 hr of ironing. Although we expect you to help keep the house tidy we certainly don’t want you picking up after our children all day long, we prefer you to help reinforce our belief that they can tidy their things up themselves albeit with a bit of help! Your evenings are free from around 7pm which gives you plenty of time to attend French courses. Although we are in the country, there are French language courses available 10 minutes’ drive away. Wednesday mornings are also free. You will have your own furnished room with double bed, TV, Wi-Fi, individually controlled heating and use of a computer if you need. Telephone calls are free. We will make sure that you have a car for your own personal use and as we live in the French countryside a clean driving licence is a MUST for this position. Perhaps one of the best perks of this job is that you will have the weekends all to yourself from Friday at 17h15 until Monday 8h30. You are of course welcome to spend your weekends with us but you will not be expected to work. Alternatively you can use the time to visit other parts of France or friends you may have over here. We are very flexible and with advance notice the hours on Friday afternoon and Monday morning are even negotiable! The only thing we ask is that one Saturday night per month you babysit for us. We would like you to have a reasonable level of English or French to facilitate all the arrangements.
