We're a small, happy family who has just moved to Keene, New Hampshire (about 80 miles from Boston, MA and 15 miles from Brattleboro, VT). Keene is a picturesque small New England city with two colleges, many young people and a lot to do. It's a slower pace than new York or Boston but it's fun. We live right downtown and can walk to almost everything, but there are parks, lakes, farms and open spaces in the surrounding countryside. We are both working professionals and our elder daughter is in school during the days. I'm a doctor and my husband is a college professor. Our daughter is interested in music and movies, sports and books and nature. We're looking for an Au Pair that would become like part of the family. Someone with interests and goals and a desire to be involved. Of course, you would have time to yourself, and a room and respect from everyone, but we hope to find someone who makes friends easily and is excited to be around and curious about other people. We'd love to meet someone who would teach and inspire us, share cooking and customs from another part of the world with us and our daughters, and be a loving, sisterly presence in our daughters lives and someone who they could look up to.
The duties would include helping to get the girls up and ready in the morning, caring for our younger daughter during weekdays (she too will do some pre-schooling) but would be home in afternoons and 1-2 days a week. Also you'd be with both daughters on occasional week or weekend days. We'd also expect you to watch both a couple evenings a week, keep your things tidy and pitch in with light housework. But we would never ask housework that was time intensive or physically demanding, and we'd never ask you to care for the girls more than 40 hours in a week (often it will be less). In a typical week you'd probably watch the girls about 30 hours . Someone who can cook--at least breakfast and dinner for kids--is a plus. If you can cook a couple of dinners each week all the better. Someone musically or otherwise artistically inclined is also desirable, though the main thing is having interests that you want to share.
