We are a Swedish family living in a small village just outside of the well known ski resort Chamonix. Our daughters both go to the local French school and we speak Swedish, English and French. We have had au pairs before and it is always a great experience, both for us and the kids (and we think for the au pairs too, they keep coming back to visit!) Tomas works at sea, and AK works in Geneva. This means that when Tomas is at work, the au pair will need to work a lot, and when he is home, not very much at all (he usually works 4 weeks away, then stays 4 weeks home). Skiing is a big part of life in Chamonix in the winter, and in the summer hiking, climbing and biking are popular activities. For an outdoor-interessted person, au pairing with us is a good base.
Standard weeks when Tomas is away and kids are at school: wake kids up at 07, get them ready for schoolbus at 08, clean up breakfast etc. Then free until 16:45: pick up kids at school, drive home, prepare dinner, help with homework, clean up dinner. Help with washing and groceries as needed during the work week. Drive to and from kids' activities as negotiated with other parents. Weekends free. When Tomas is away, our Fiat Panda 4x4 is at the au pair's disposal both for work and weekends. When Tomas is home; tasks are making dinner a few nights a week, occasional babysitting, tidying and groceries as needed. Times and days flexible. During school holidays schedules will vary according to circumstance. Please note that spoken French or Swedish is a requirement, along with a clean driver's licence. A good command of English is an advantage.
