Introduzione personale

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED A VISA TO ENTER THE UK We are a family of four. Emmanuela is 39 years old, Saeed 52, Sophia 9 and Parissa 7. Sophia and Parissa go to a local primary school which is 5 minutes walk from our house. In September 2017 they will be in Year 5 and Year 3 respectively. At home the family speaks English (although only the kids are native speakers!). A fluent level of English is a very important qualification, because we have found that it helps with the children’s homework. Saeed and Emmanuela are both University Lecturers (University of London and Warwick University respectively). The family lives in one of the most central areas of London, in Bloomsbury, just off Russell Square. The building is a Student Hall of Residence where Saeed is the Warden (a part-time post, which we has outside his day job. More about this as an advantage for our au pairs below!) Saeed walks to work, so his hours are very reliable. Every day he leaves at around 9am and returns by 5.30 or 6 pm. Emmanuela travels to Warwick twice (or max three) times a week: she leaves at 6.20 am and comes back at 7.30pm. During term-time she stays on campus overnight once a week. On the other days she works from home or in a library in Russell Square. Both parents are quite busy with their work, which they enjoy very much. They often work from home in the evenings and at weekends, especially Emmanuela. Saeed likes DIY and going to the cinema and Emmanuela enjoys cooking, gardening and going to the theatre. As a family, we enjoy travelling and usually go somewhere in Europe (most oft

Il lavoro dell’Au pair

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED A VISA TO ENTER THE UK Au pair hours & duties: We are looking for a 35-hour commitment from you per week. This year, our plan with our current au pair is: Mornings, all weekdays except Fridays: 7.30-9 am Afternoons, Mondays-Thursdays: 3.30 (or 4.30)-8.30 Sundays: mornings to afternoons (times negotiable) Fridays and Saturdays off. Sometimes, depending on our work, it is Fridays and Sundays that are given off. Generally we are flexible and we respect our au pair’s plans, and we find it helpful if she also does the same. Saeed and Emmanuela do not go out often in the evenings during the week, because we feel tired. We like to go out during the day on the weekends, so babysitting hours will be negotiated with you. Both parents are very dedicated to their children and enjoy spending quality time with them, one-to-one, and as a family, so we will not be dumping our kids on you! We have found that the best way to operate is like a 5-member family (including the au pair) and to alternate between roles and activities. For example, on weekday afternoons, one of the adults cooks while two other two play or read/do homework with the kids. Then the kids and one adult tidy up the toys, while the other two stay in the kitchen, clear the table, load the dishwasher and chat, before they take over to start the bedtime routine. In this way, no-one does too much of any chore! Another example: in the mornings, the kids wake up by themselves at 7.30. The au pair and one of the two parents (usually Emmanuela) make sure that the kids make and have their own breakfast, that they put dirty dishes on the kitchen counter and milk back in fridge, etc; then, that they are dressed for school, have their hair and teeth brushed and prepare their school bags. The children should be ready for school by 8.40 and then one or both of us (or the au pair) walk them to school. At 3.25 (or 4.45) the au pair picks up one or both kids from school, and, depending on the weather, walks them home or visits the nearby Coram’s fields (3 minutes from the school and our flat). They give them a snack, plays with them (or keeps an eye on a playdate) or leaves them alone to play, if they prefer. She might have to return to school by 4.45 to pick up the other child. Then they all go home and draw, do crafts, bake, play etc., until the parents come home at 5.30-5.45. The family cooks and eats dinner, does homework, etc. and then the au pair assists with the bed time routine, until 8.30 pm. Ideally, the children fall asleep by 8.30. When the parents are not at home, we appreciate the au pair to provide warm, caring company for the children, be ready to play their favourite games (especially role play), have enthusiasm for crafts and making things, love reading and storytelling. Driving license: Not necessary, we do not use the car much, as we live so centrally. It would be fantastic if you had other skills, such as music, singing, art, sports, performance skills, and were ready to share them with the kids (and with us!). Au pair pocket money & accommodation: We are aware of the pocket money rates and we are happy to pay accordingly, and according to ex
