We are an Irish family of 5, currently living in Carinthia, Austria. We took a 2 year career break to come to teach in an international school in Austria, and will return to Ireland in August. We absolutely love Austria and the children have learned German very well. Therefore, we would love an Austrian who could maintain the children's language skills, as well as helping us in the running of a busy family home.
We live in a country cottage, overlooking the Irish Sea, on a farm in the Glens of Antrim. We have a 12 year old girl, a 10 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. We leave the house about 8.30 am. The two youngest travel to school, about 10 mins by car with their father and the eldest will attend my secondary school, 15 mins by car. The 2 younger ones may need to be collected around 3 pm, snack, homework and play. We're usually back by 5. We have dinner together as a family and then the evenings might involve dropping children to sport, drama, homework... It depends. We live in a beautiful part of Ireland and are an open minded, fairly relaxed family. Having lived in Austria for 2 years we would have much in common with our au pair as well as a good understanding of the challenges of living abroad and adjusting to a new culture. Tasks would involve - 1 or 2 hours housework in the afternoon, whilst the family is away, This would involve tidying/hoovering general living areas and children's bedrooms, laundry, dishwasher... Basically keeping the house running. In the late afternoon we would hope you could either do homework with the kids or else play with them. It would be very helpful if you were able to prepare the family meal. We would like the children to maintain their German so perhaps an hour per day could be dedicated to that. It might be through play or sometimes lessons. If you enjoy kids, animals and the outdoors this would be the ideal place for you. We look forward to hearing from you
