Hello! We are looking for an au pair girl to help us out with our two children, a boy (now 4 - born in December 2011) and a girl (now 2 year old - born in January 2014). We live in Pisa, in Tuscany. I am Italian and my husband is Canadian, so we are raising our children bilingual. We are presently hosting our 3rd au pair girl. We now have a lovely Canadian girl with us, but she will leave us at the end of July and we will be very sad to see her go. So we are starting to look for our next au pair (to start in September 2016). We are looking forward to welcoming a young woman into our family who can help us with our children. We have just said goodbye to our second au pair after 6 months, a lovely girl from Canada, whom we were very sad to see go. We are now hosting our third au pair, also from Canada. Our schedule is flexible so we have to be out at different times on different days. When I am at home, I often have to read and write, so I might be hiding in my office but I am available if anything is needed. My husband is out from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm 5 days a week. We don't work at the weekend, so you would always be free on Saturday and Sunday and over most of the school holidays. Our son is usually in school from 9am to 3:30pm, so most the time would be spent looking after our baby girl. She should start to go to daycare in September, but only for a few hours per day (9am-11:30am), but since the first year in school kids always get sick very often, she might be home in the morning as well. We DO NOT expect our au pair to do much housework, but since we hope she will become part of the family, she will have to share some of the house chores (vacuuming and dusting, emptying the dishwasher, hanging and bringing in the laundry, taking out the trash, etc). We will all do these things. She will have to look after her own room and she will have to prepare the kids' meals if we are out. We usually take care of all the rest and we don't normally ask to babysit in the evening, if not a couple of times a month (we always agree on the schedule anyway). We have no family here in Pisa, so we basically need to be sure that if we have to be out, there is somebody in the house at all times with the kid(s), or somebody who can occasionally go pick up our son from school if we are stuck at work (walking distance). Our apartment is very large but we only have two bedrooms. We did however have a large office, which we transformed into a bedroom and gave to our au pair as her own private room. We can discuss details with possible candidates who might be interested in coming to spend a few months with us in Pisa, Tuscany, and work with them to find the best possible solution for us all. We are looking for a NATIVE speaker of English, who will speak with our children exclusively in English. We are happy to leave her time to attend a language course if she wishes to learn Italian of course. We would prefer candidates who are trained in emergency child care first aid, and who have previous experience with young children because taking care of preschoolers is a devil of a job even if our children are very easy. References are required. We are happy to provide references as host family. We would like to get to know the girl through Skype calls and frequent email contacts. We also like to know the families of our au pairs, because it's is essential to us that they share our values.
