We are looking for a cheerful and experienced Au Pair to live with our family and help us take care of our 17 month old boy. We live in a beautiful house on a quiet tree lined street with a big garden and only a 20 minute walk from Reading town centre. My husband has a very demanding job and I have just started a full time position with the potential for long hours. Our schedules change, often last minute and I can get held up at work without a lot of notice. My concern is that our son has a familiar, friendly and caring face in the house to fill in the gaps for us and to give him some stability and maintain his routine. We are relaxed people and are keen to find someone who is fun, positive, energetic, flexible, firm but fair and that is willing to become an important part of our family and day to day life. Ideally we are looking for a 1-2 year commitment with immediate start. We have two friendly cats so please don’t apply if you have allergies. You would be working Monday to Friday from 7am to 9am and then from 5:30pm to 7:30pm with some help around the house in the middle, plus two evenings babysitting a week. Weekends are free besides one evening babysitting a fortnight, and if you have a clean driving licence you can have access to one of our cars in the evenings and at weekends. We don't go away very often but will invite you to travel with us when we do. Our spare room is quite small but it is warm and comfortable and we are respectful of your own time and privacy. Duties: Monday to Friday: Getting our son up, dressed and giving him breakfast before taking him to Nursery. Light cleaning and laundry. (Ironing 5 shirts and a few pairs of trousers weekly, light dusting, hoovering, tidying up after breakfast, laundry, changing bedding, putting out the bins) Preparing a light evening meal. (slow cooker, stews or simple meals) Collecting our son from nursery, playing and reading with him, giving him a nutritious snack and on the occasions neither of us are able to get back in time, getting him ready and into bed. Currently the nursery is a 15 minute drive away but for the right applicant who doesn't drive we will consider moving him to one a 10 minute walk away. Please keep in mind we are having a crazy few weeks so a delay in response will simply be having time to respond (hence the urgency!), we endevour to respond to all emails. Reading : We live 1 mile from the town centre and also minutes from the river where you can walk either to town or to local villages and a country pub. We really do get the best of town and country living where we are located. We are surrounded by colleges all teaching a variety of subjects including English. We would be happy to negotiate 'working hours' around any courses you wanted to take. There is a cafe a ten minute walk away which is very child friendly and also every supermarket chain either walking distance or a short drive away. In the Town centre there is a beautiful riverside area with a shopping centre, bars and restaurants as well as a high street with ally he usual shops and food places. There is a museum and lots of interesting churches. There is a well serviced bus stop at the end of our road and we are a short walk from a train station.
