Dear Au Pair, we're an international family living on the coast of Tuscany, Italy. I'm half American half Italian, my husband is Swiss, from Interlaken. We live very close to the beach, in the countryside, near Punta Ala and Follonica (Grosseto). We run our own mountain bike tour and rental business during the summer months and would need help during the busy months, from April/May to mid September/October. Mario and I both work a lot, every day, min 8 hours, during the high season. Our children are Laila, age 7, and Milo, age 2 and half, and new baby boy or girl due in April. At home we speak mostly English. Mario speaks Swiss-German with the children, and Italian is the school and local language. Laila and Milo are healthy, active and charming children. We'd like our children to learn better German or Swiss-German, hence we'd prefer someone from Germany or Switzerland, but are open to other nationalities and languages. We've had au pairs for 5 years now and have gained many positive experiences and contacts. I'd be glad to put you in contact with previous au pairs.
We expect you to spend max 7-8 hours a day with the children and have one day off per week, which sometimes become 2 if you want to take a trip somewhere and if we can find back up help. The busy months are June/July/August, then things calm down a bit and you can also have more time off. You will spend a lot of time outdoors and at the beach, mostly at a 4 star Camping Resort where our business is located. It's a beautiful location. You must know how to swim and ride a bike. We're looking for someone positive, outdoorsy, patient and independent. The last is important not only in taking care of children but also in taking care of yourself, your emotional and physical well-being. We are very supportive and open and expect an equal relationship, which hopefully will turn into a friendship. In addition to the weekly pay, you will have your own apartment with kitchen and bathroom. You can either eat with us or on your own. Food shopping is on our bill. You may have family or friends stay with you. During school time (until mid June and from mid Sept) it would be nice if you could drive to the nearest town Follonica to bring or pick up Laila from school. Follonica is 15km from our house, a 15 min drive. This is also where I do most of our food shopping and run errands. A driver's license and driving skills are not a must but would be very appreciated for the practical support you could give us and would allow you to go and explore places during your time off.
