We are an open-minded and flexible family, but our daily life is busy these days because of combining work and family life. 20 years ago we have lived abroad (in Holland), and my work is very international, so I think we have a little better understanding for foreign cultures than an average Finnish family. We are rather straight forward people who have previous experiences with housekeepers and babysitters; we don't complain about nonsense, but will talk with you if we would like you to do something differently. We are expecting the same from you :) We have four children altogether, but the oldest son (22 years) does not live at home any more. The children living at home are a girl 15 years, boy 10 years and a girl 8 years. They all go to school and speak some English. Our 15 years old daughter also speaks some French. We both parents are working and speak pretty good English. The father is working as Polytechnic teacher and the mother is working in banking business in Helsinki. The mother also has to do some business travel. During those times we especially need some support from you. The mother works frequently from home as well, through computer and internet connection. The father smokes but never in the house. We are expecting you to be a honest, reliable, brisk and proactive, independent and responsibility taking personality. We try to live according to our values, and appreciate that our children have friends and ability to play either inside or outside.
We need an au pair mainly to help keeping our housework in balance, since we don't have small children any more. Therefore you will have some free time during the day, but sometimes during the mornings, Mon-Fri afternoons and during some evenings we expect you to watch after our two youngest children (8 and 10). Sometimes you need to send them to school in the mornings if we go to work early. They are pretty independent but still sometimes need support. During weekdays we expect you to do clean the house according to what has been agreed (vacuuming weekly, dusting and mopping biweekly) and wash the laundry on daily basis. We would like to ask you also to prepare the evening meal for our family; we usually gather for a joint meal around 5-6 pm. During weekends you are normally free to do what you want but can also stay at our house if you want. Although we are rather busy, we would however like to teach our children to do their part of housework as well, and would like to have your support in this task. It can be that the children are in charge of doing the dishes, for example. Maybe you can support them to complete their tasks once in a while, or help them to tidy up their rooms. Our children can understand some English although they don't yet speak very much.
