We are a British family living in a small town in the North of England, we have two children - a boy who is 6 and a girl who is (almost!) 4. They are very friendly children and are a lot of fun. Although we are both British, we are interested in learning languages, and have been trying to teach our kids Spanish. Both have a fairly good understanding of Spanish, they will watch Spanish cartoons and say some simple phrases. So far they seem to enjoy it! We are looking for a native Spanish speaker, with an enthusiasm for language learning and teaching, to join us partly for childcare and partly to teach them Spanish. My Spanish isn't great, so I hope that you will be able to help us all learn! As they are so young all our Spanish teaching is through songs, stories and play; we are trying to include Spanish in their daily lives so they gain a natural exposure to it. My husband and I will, of course, also make an effort to help you improve your English we talk in English at home, and in the evenings, but we are hoping you will talk to the children in Spanish as much as possible. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: An enthusiasm for teaching Spanish to young children, including incorporating learning into play!
Monday & Wednesday: Take children to school / collect after school. Look after them until about 6 pm. On school holidays you would have the children all day on these two days. Tuesday and Thursday: I work from home on these days, though occasionally I have to go into work. You'd be welcome to take time off normally, or occasionally if I have to work then do the school run. Fridays: Ellie Spanish day! I work from home on a Friday so I'd be around to help, but mostly I'd like you to spend the day with Ellie and speak to her in Spanish. Saturday / Sunday: Free days for you. These are family days for us, we normally have day trips to parks or to visit friends. Sometimes we go camping (the kids love to sleep in a tent!) or stay with friends. Of course it is your time off so you can do as you like, but you are welcome to come along with us on whatever we do, if you want. Overall, the childcare we need is fairly small - before and after school 2 or 3 days and one full day. And more full days during the school holiday. We'd like light help tidying / washing kids clothes, but not cleaning / cooking (unless of course you want to!). But we do want someone who is interested in teaching Spanish and interacting in Spanish in a fun and informal way. Obviously you also want to learn English, so we will make sure there is a fair balance between Spanish and English. START DATE: Looking for someone to start from August 1st onward. Ideally looking to stay up to a year. PAY: 80 pounds pocket money per week, return flights paid.
