We are a busy yet relaxed family based in Balham, South London. Dad works in finance, mum works in advertising. Two lovely daughters: Emily, just turning 3 who starts at pre school in September, and Rosie, just turning 6, who is entering year 1 in September. Balham is a well connected location - we live a few mins from Balham station which has both overground trains and on the Northern line (tube). It also has loads of green areas and parks (Tooting, Clapham and Wandsworth common). We live in a 5 bedroom house with a separate spacious attic room which is perfect for an au pair. Mum (Laura) works 4 days, Dad (Giles) works 5 days. Laura has Fridays off so does all childcare on this day. Both kids do lots of activities outside school - tennis, playdates, swimming, playball. And we love to get out and visit new places outside of London and inside the city centre. Or just simply going to the park. We rarely just stay at home all day.
The main task is some wrap around care for both Rosie and Emily after pre-school and school. For example, on some days it will be as little as picking up Emily from pre-school and taking her to her day nursery (just 1 hour of work, 2 days per week). On the other 2 days we'll need a little more: picking up Emily at 12 and having her for the afternoon and taking her to a local class (e.g. playball). And on these days, then picking up Rosie from school at 4.20. These busy days would finish at 6 (sometimes 7). We'd love someone who is willing to take on other kids for playdates too as this always makes it fun for all! We would also love 2 evenings a week baby sitting - but we're fairly flexible here and work with the au pair to schedule these. Finally, light house work would be needed - staying on top of kids rooms, and general mess. But we have a cleaner who does all of the main cleaning tasks. Main advantages of living with us: a welcoming family, proximity to London, loads of other families with au pairs nearby and the privacy of our attic room.
